Antripodean Collective - live at Cross Street
7.30pm - Saturday 11 March, 2023

The Antripodean Collective is an ever-changing group of the finest improvising musicians in Australia. The aim of this group is to explore improvised music from every angle and in every form. The musicians for this performance are Scott Tinkler, Scott McConnachie, Ren Walters, Jenny Barnes and Adam King.

Scott Tinkler acts as curator seeking to create situations that extend the comfort zones of each musician in order for them to explore new possibilities. Each configuration creates difference, sparks new dialogue and seeks out the collective spirit. The result is a unique music, unrepeatable, contingent and brilliantly alive.

PRESENTED AS PART OF THE BRUNSWICK MUSIC FESTIVAL

Peggy Lee’s Open Thread
live at Cross Street for Brunswick Music Festival

5pm, Sunday 5 March, 2023

In the 1990’s, Canadian cellist, Peggy Lee, and drummer, Dylan van der Schyff, were already being described as “two of the brightest lights on the new music/improv/jazz scene.” Since then, they have garnered countless accolades for their performances and recordings together with many of North America and Europe’s finest improvisers.
Classically trained in Toronto, Lee has been heralded as “one of the world’s finest improvising cellists.” She is also a beguilingly original and prolific composer. van der Schyff is a leading avant-garde percussionist, but what really sets him apart is his delicate and conversational approach.
At the start of 2023, Peggy invited established Melbourne saxophonist, Julien Wilson, and prodigious young guitarist, Theo Carbo to form a new ensemble. Together they create a collective sound which is fresh and exciting, and hauntingly cinematic, while always maintaining an adventurous and playful edge.

Work is underway on renovations at Fleming Park, including significant improvements to Cross Street Music Hall and the surrounding landscape.

Moreland Council installed this temporary mural to liven up the worksite, created by local artists Steph Hughes and Alice Glenn. Amongst other things, the mural tips its hat to Moreland Band legends Hugh McNiven and Jim Cuomo.
